Ippon-seoi-nage

Ippon-seoi-nage () (one armed shoulder throw)

[edit] Ippon-seoi-nage

With your left hand, grab the opponent's right sleeve at the elbow or near the end of their sleeve. With your right hand, grip the opponent's left collar.

Step in with your right foot about halfway between you and your opponent. Break their balance to their front or front right by pulling up and back with your arms. Continue pulling back as you bend your legs, pivot on your right foot and place your left foot in front of the opponent's left foot so that they are facing the same direction.

As you do this, your right hand and forearm should slide under the opponent's right arm. Your elbow should be as close as possible to the opponent's armpit. Also, pinch their right arm to control it. You should have control of the arm now.

There should now be no space between you and your opponent. Straighten your legs, twist your body, and bend forward to load the opponent on to your back and throw them.

[edit] Kata seoi-nage

Nage-no-kata variation of the throw.

This version is a variation of ippon-seoi-nage where the arm of the opponent is placed on the shoulder instead of the elbow.

To start, the two players stand one tatami apart (about 1.80m).

The uke steps forward with their left foot and raises their right hand. Then uke steps forward with their right foot and strikes down at the head of the tori. Uke should aim at the top front part of the head.

The tori reacts to this by stepping in front of uke's right foot with their right foot and grabbing the sleeve of the attacking arm with their left arm. Tori is not blocking the attack, but continuing the movement. Tori should then turn back and place their left foot back in front of uke's left foot while bending their knees.

As tori steps in, their right hand should slide under uke's right arm. The right arm of the uke should be on the shoulder of the tori with tori gripping the upper sleeve of uke's right arm. You should have control of the arm now.

There should now be no space between you and your opponent. Straighten your legs, twist your body, and bend forward to load the opponent on to your back and throw them.
